About Stat Grinder

Stat Grinder is a free browser-based sports analytics trivia game covering the NHL, NFL, MLB, and NBA. Instead of answering questions, you assign real teams to real statistical categories — then try to chase the lowest possible score.

It’s built for fans who actually follow the standings, not just the headlines.

Each round gives you six teams and six stat categories from a real season. Your job:

1. Assign each team to the category where you think they rank best (or worst, depending on the stat).
2. Submit your picks and see how close you were.
3. Your score is the total of each team's rank in their assigned category.
4. A perfect score means every team was placed in exactly the right order.

Lower the score, the better.

Classic Mode

Pick any of the four leagues — NHL, NFL, MLB, or NBA — and play a full round using stats from the most recently completed season. You can replay as many times as you like. Each session draws a fresh set of six teams and six categories.

The Daily Grind

One new team across all four leagues, every day. Six clues are revealed one at a time — team colors, venue capacity, year the team was founded, championships won, state or province, and venue name. Guess the team before you run out of clues. Your result can be shared as a color-coded score card, Wordle-style.

Stats are pulled from official league sources and refreshed each season. Categories include:

• NHL: Wins, goals for/against per game, power play %, penalty kill %, shots per game
• NFL: Wins, points for/against per game, passing yards, rushing yards, total yards per game
• MLB: Wins, runs per game, ERA, batting average, errors per game, home runs per game
• NBA: Wins, points, rebounds, assists, 3-point %, turnovers per game

Stat Grinder was built by a sports fan who wanted a game that actually rewarded knowing the numbers — not just the names. It’s a solo side project, free to play, and updated regularly.
